Katy stood  in the doorway of the living room for what seemed like an eternity waiting for Matt to just acknowledge her. No such luck. Finally, she stepped into the room and sat down on the couch. “Matt, we need to talk.”

Matt kept his eyes nailed on the wall. He clenched his teeth causing that slow tick to show in his jaw. “Why? I want you gone. And I'm not exactly in shape to push you out of my house, now am I?”

Matt could always easily get under her skin. Katy had to draw on every bit of steel resolve she had developed in their time apart to not let him do it once more. He’s hurting and pissed. It’s not you.

“Our house." Katy spoke the words and knew a second later she did so without remembering the very thing she had just told herself. The words didn’t come from any thought process. They just poured forth uninhibited in their battle of wills.

Matt let out a snarl of frustration. He turned his head to face her as he sat against the head of the bed. “My house! You walked away from it, and when you did, it was no longer yours. You gave it up just like you gave up our marriage. Our life.” Matt swallowed down the lump of pain he had to force words around. It threatened to rip through him as he forced himself to focus on Katy’s beautiful eyes. His anger and resentment so thick, the words were choked out. “Gave me up! You can’t claim anything. Nothing! Do you hear me, Katy? Or is it Katherine? Tell me, sweetheart, who are you tricking yourself into being nowadays? Because I sure as hell don’t recognize you. Not at all.”

Katy looked away as she crossed her legs and focused on the dusty dappled sunspots in the dining room Where dust mites swam in the light. Did she envy their freedom? She shouldn’t. They were just as trapped as Matt was.

Nodding, she spoke to him with a tone as if talking to a child, “You’re right, Matt. I did. But”—she turned back to him— “I’m here now. And like you said, you can’t very well show me the door.”

It was a cruel button to push, but Katy could see it also burned away the impact of the pain narcotics. His rage singed the chemical hold on Matt to emotional ash. He reached out to grab her arm and pull her close. He focused on her eyes. He wanted to make it clear to her and leave zero doubt how very far she pushed him.

“When the fuck did you get so cruel? My Katy would never be so damn mean. Is that why you’re here? To be mean? To see the mess you left behind so you can have some kind of twisted pride in how it all fell apart after you left? Well, get a good look, baby.” He let her go with a shove. He rolled to his side to fully place his back to her. “Then get the fuck out.”

"Great storyline, cute and very sweet..." - Goodreads Review
A bar owner who’s not looking for a relationship. A lost soul who’s afraid to trust. When Elijah and Seb meet, sparks fly. But will either of them find the courage to take what they want?

Pouring his all into his business, Elijah is perfectly content running his bar. With its prime location and its infamous drag shows, Bar QK is the place to be. Elijah is used to meeting new and sometimes interesting people, but it’s rare anyone catches his interest for anything longer than a five-minute conversation.

It takes a wandering, unfiltered surfer, who’s tired of the chase and dog-tired of people taking advantage of him, to spark long-buried interest in Elijah.

While kindness runs through his veins, Seb doesn’t believe in fairy tales. He has a past he’d rather forget and has no real expectations for his future. He believes it’s safer to not make assumptions about anything or anyone; that way, he’ll remain safe.

It takes his elusive, aloof boss, whose mixed messages are more confusing than Ikea furniture instructions, to show Seb that opening his heart can be worth the risk.

When Elijah and Seb find themselves working on a common goal, the high stakes may be just the nudge they need.

Doc stepped forward, but Isa interrupted his act. “Do you like breathing?”
        Cueball smirked. “Last I checked.”
“Then I suggested you back off before the Belfast president finds out you’re drooling over his daughter.”
Doc bit back a laugh at the expression on Cueball’s face. The other man stepped away, hands up in surrender. “No harm intended.” He glanced to Doc. “They grow them feisty in Ireland.”
He jerked his chin up. “Wouldn’t have it any other way, brother.”
Cueball chuckled and maintained his path toward the bedrooms. When Doc turned back around, he met Isa’s glowering face. The more time he spent with her only reiterated his longing to put her over his knee. She was sassy when needed and that stirred up the most primitive sensations in his mind. Suddenly, being uprooted from his familiar role as the club doctor wasn’t so bad.
        “Are all MC members horndogs?”
Doc took a step closer and tugged on the bottom of her shirt. It barely covered her navel, leaving plenty of skin available to tempt any man. “Have you seen yourself, Isa? You’re the prettiest girl in the clubhouse.” His eyes fixed to her lips where she was rubbing them together. “And that fire of yours only makes it hotter.” He reached over and ran his knuckles down the side of her neck, goosebumps spreading at his act. “Because we all like to play with fire.”
“What if I burn you,” she whispered, the sound airy and uncertain.
He chuckled and stepped away. “You’re worth the scars, princess.”

Meet Motts and the quirky cast of characters in her world. Poisoned Primrose is a quintessential cosy British mystery and an all-round fun story to throw yourself into.

Autistic, asexual, and almost forty, Pineapple “Motts” Mottley flees London with her cat and turtle to a quaint cottage in Cornwall. She craves the peace of life in a small village. The dead body buried in her garden isn’t quite what she had in mind, though.

Unable to resist her curiosity, she falls directly into a mess of trouble and runs head-first into the attractive detective inspector, Teo Herceg. She tries to balance her business with the investigation crime, but as the killer focuses on her, staying alive becomes trickier than advanced origami.

Will Motts survive the onslaught of murderously bad luck?

Can she solve the mystery before it all spins out of control and off a cliff?

Lemon curd on buttered toast soothed a multitude of problems. Motts had made three slices to get her through the morning. She hadn’t quite recovered despite spending an entire day alone in the cottage.

Although needing more time to recover, Motts had several early meetings. Vina had helped her connect with a few shop owners in Polperro. She hoped to convince them to consider commissioning some of her paper flower arrangements.

Motts stared mournfully into her empty mug. “Can I take a sick day?”

Meow.

She ran her fingers gently over Cactus’s head, rubbing behind his ears. “Is that a yes or a no? Or do you not want to be left behind?”

I could have another piece of toast.

Procrastinating won’t erase your need to meet Marnie and Peggie.

It helped Motts that she knew both women. She’d met them several times on the Mottley family holidays to Polperro. They were lovely people who’d make her feel welcome and comfortable.

And yet, her anxiety refused to settle.

She had a lifetime of experience forcing herself to get through dealing with the world. Her autistic diagnosis had come late—in her midthirties. She’d felt relief at having answers, yet in some ways, even four years on, she continued to struggle to adjust to the paradigm shift.

Changing out of her comfy pyjamas into jeans and a long-sleeved flannel shirt, Motts stood in front of the full-length mirror on the back of the bedroom door. You can do this. Origami flowers are your bread and butter. Talk about the paper arrangements—you don’t need to make small talk.

Motts redid the buttons on her shirt. “I’m Motts.”

You don’t have to introduce yourself. You’ve met them before. They know your name.

“Right.” She didn’t make eye contact with her reflection. “Okay. Hello. Lovely to see you again.”

Do I ever say lovely to see you?

No.

“Hi. Do you want to buy my flowers?” Great. Now I sound like some Victorian street urchin without the accent and coal-smudged face. “Hello. Thanks for meeting with me. I brought sketches.”

Well, it’s better. Not brilliant, but better.
